Dvr David Daniel Mills

David was born in Brentwood in 1877, the son of a bricklayer and one of three children. He grew up in a small timber framed cottage, which had been converted from one wing of a large farmhouse called Great Stampfords that stood on Hart Street.

In 1905 he married Elizabeth Webb in Brentwood, and they moved to 11 Weald Road, where they raised their family.

During the first world war he was called up to serve and joined the Royal Field Artillery as a driver, going to France on 27th November 1915. He suffered badly from the conditions in the trenches and in 1916 was sent home to recover from trench fever. Unfortunately he did not recover and died on 5th November 1916. He is buried in London Road cemetery.
