Victor was the son of John and Susan Cooper. He had a sister called Florence, and the family lived on Cromwell Road. Victor's father drove carts for a living.
By age 13 Victor had left school and was working selling books, but later got a job as a railway porter at Brentwood station.
During the first world war he first attested in 1915, but was not called up until August 1917. He then trained as a signaller with the Royal Garrison Artillery, and did not end up going to France until late in the war - arriving at Calais on 22nd September 1918.
After the war he continued working as a railway porter and moved to Coptfold road after getting married. He died in Brentwood in 1956.
