Pte Alban Louis Osborn

Alban was one of six children, the son of George James and Amelia Sophia Osborn, of 'Thornleigh', Ingrave Road, Brentwood. He was born in 1898 in Brentwood, where his father was a pig dealer and was later educated at Brentwood School.

He joined the 1/8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters during the first world war and was sent to France.

He was sick with a fever June 1918, perhaps caused by an infection or the bad condition in the trenches, and was sent to Number 4 Stationary Hospital in Arques. He is recorded as "dying of wounds" on 22nd September 1918, but this could be a generalisation and he may have died of the fever. He was buried at Hancourt British Cemetery. His name is also recorded on the Brentwood war memorial.
