Frederick was originally from Billericay, but later moved to Brentwood. He was the son of William and Fanny Leggett, and went on to marry a woman from Braintree called Rose Crowe in 1941.

Some time before 1940 he moved to Brentwood and worked with the post office.

During the second world war, he attested for the Royal Artillery in 1940, and became part of the Army Catering Corps. On 7th Jan 1943 he 'died at sea', although the circumstances are unclear.

He is remembered on the Brentwood Post Office war memorial and the Brentwood War Memorial.
